Further Information

You might be wondering...

What are the expectations on practice?

The fact of the matter is this: no matter how good of a music teacher you have, if you don't practice, taking lessons is hardly worth it. With practice, lessons are extremely helpful. Without practice, lessons aren't much but a waste of time for both the student and the teacher. So, if practicing isn't something that the student is willing to do, please enter into these lessons with this warning: without practice, you're most likely wasting your money.

Practice time varies from individual to individual, as well as for different types of lessons, but as a general rule, exercises and other practice ought to take at least thirty minutes per day, every day (excluding Sunday). Each student will receive a practice sheet each week with their assignments for the week and spaces to mark off each assignment for each day. Consistent practice over the four months will result in a reward at the time of the recital/showcase/theory project.

Can parents sit in on children's lessons?

Yes! Because holding lessons at my apartment requires travel time, parents are welcome to sit in at my apartment and observe the lesson. However, parents are asked to bring a book, phone, or other activity to occupy themselves, or else to observe quietly, rather than interjecting in the lesson.

Can children sit in on parents' lessons?

Yes! If you'd like to take lessons but don't have somewhere for your children to go during the lesson, they are perfectly welcome to stay at my apartment during your lesson. Just let me know ahead of time. I can provide a few activities (Uno, Spot It, a puzzle, crayons and coloring books, etc.) for them to enjoy during the lesson.

What is the policy on lesson cancellation?

Things come up in life, and that's perfectly understandable. Lessons can be cancelled up to 24 hours before the lesson, and no payment will be required. However, if cancelling within 24 hours of the lesson, full payment for the lesson will still be required. I will send out a calendar at the beginning of each month with any dates that I am unavailable for lessons, and will not cancel any other lessons, except in the case of serious emergency. If I become sick within a week of the lesson, I will have an option for an online lesson that week, or for cancellation.

Can adults take lessons?

Anyone above the age limit for each lesson type is welcome to sign up for lessons. There are some cases where I might decide that you're of a high enough level that my lessons won't be particularly useful to you, but I'm guessing if that's the case you won't be contacting me for lessons.
